The FCPS Department of Instructional Technology will be offering this year a variety of technology integration professional development opportunities for teachers after school at various location throughout the county.

We will have 2 topic choices for February: Pixie 3 (for elementary and middle school teachers) and Quizlet (for high school teachers).

Pixie 3 (by Tech 4 Learning) allows students the ability to create their own original art and writing projects on their computer. Easy to use drawing tools make graphic design a snap for students in all grades. Teachers will find the pre-made lessons and activities easy to find and use with students, or can let their class start with a blank canvas where the only limit is a child's imagination.

New features in Pixie 3 include:

• Save all Pictures as ONE file! - At last students can save all over their artwork in ONE file instead of saving each picture separately. This makes it much easier to create stories,comic books, and movies.
• Collaborate on Pixie Projects - Students now have the ability to work together on one Pixie project
• Get Published - Students can publish their work online in the password protected
k12share.com site from Tech4Learning.
• New Drawing Tools - Some of the new tools include crayon and marker. The drawing tools
have been moved to the right side of the screen for more convenience.
• Interactive Full Screen Mode - Pixie 3 has a feature that optimizes the buttons and tools for
use on interactive whiteboard users. There is even a "clone" feature which allows you to
drag and drop copies of objects on the page. This is great for activities such as money,
maps and globes, and counting.

Quizlet is an online flash cards and study games website with over 9 million free sets of flashcards covering every subject area. Students can play educational games, memorize vocabulary and study online. In this session you will learn how to search for pre-made sets, use pre-made vocabulary sets, create flashcards on Quizlet, edit and adapt pre-made vocabulary sets, and establish groups for those interested at the secondary level.

OBJECTIVES: At the end of the session, participants will be able to...

* Explain how Quizlet can be used as a curriculum tool
* Search Pre-made Vocabulary Sets
* Use Pre-made Vocabulary Sets
* Create Flashcards on Quizlet
* Edit and Adapt Pre-made Vocabulary Sets

Participants will have one hour of direct instruction and an additional optional 30 minutes to work independently exploring the tool.

Teachers will be compensated for attending this PD session at the current workshop rate of $26.26 per hour.

NOTE: Even though there are multiple training topics this month, please only choose one session for the month of February. We want to make sure as many people as possible can attend a session each month.
