About Mrs. Janik

About Mrs. Janik

I'm happy to be here at Thurmont Elementary.   It's a wonderful school and beautiful drive from my home.  I began teaching in Frederick County in 1991.  I was initially  at Emmitsburg Elementary teaching first grade and then third grade.  I then transferred to Urbana Elementary.  At Urbana Elementary I taught three years in second grade and then eleven years in the Gifted and Talented program teaching first grade for five years and second grade for six years.

I received my B.A. degree in Speech and Hearing Science at the Ohio State University.  After several geographic changes and several years at home raising children, I decided to make a slight career change and went to Hood College to obtain my teacher certification.

On a more personal note~ I have two children, John and Liz. They're adults now with their own careers and homes.  Since my children are grown and I often miss being a mom of younger children, it's nice to have the day-to-day interaction with elementary age children.  I love playing my guitar and singing with my students.  I love seeing their faces "light up" when they figure out a problem.  I love their enthusiasm when the're engaged in learning interesting new things.

I look forward to partnering with you in your child's education throughout the year.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Elaine Janik
