I am happy to be back at UES for my 20th year of teaching 5th grade in the FCPS Gifted and Talented Magnet Program. It has been a wonderful summer working in the Great Heron Wetlands,fossil hunting and spending time with family in Cape May, NJ. This is my 30th year of teaching and I still love my job.  I believe that all children can learn and achieve if they are challenged.  I received my B.S. and Masters degrees from WVU.

In 1997 I graduated with a Psychology Degree from Mount Saint Mary's College.  Following graduation  I taught at Olney Preporatory School in Olney, MD for 8 years teaching both primary and upper elementary grades.   In 2005, I earned my Masters in Education from John's Hopkins University.  After welcoming two beautiful boys, Liam and Hayden, I returned to the profession and joined the wonderful staff at Urbana Elementary School. Currently I am teaching 5th Grade.

Hello!  My name is Susan Rice.  I am an Instructional Assistant.

This is my fifth year at Urbana Elementary.

It is such a pleasure to work with the students at Urbana Elementary and assist them in becoming successful readers.

 This is my twenty-third year of teaching at Urbana.  I have taught first, second, third, and fifth grade here.  I also taught first grade for three years in Ohio, and I substitute taught in Virginia and Maryland.

Welcome to 5th grade.  As a 5th grader, your child will become more independent and responsible for his or her learning.  It is my privilege to work with your child this year and to prepare him or her for the challenges of middle school.
